MSA Classic
MSA ClassicIt is with regret that International Motor Sports Ltd (IMS) advises that the MSA Classic will not take place in 2011.

The MSA Classic had been re-introduced in 2007 in a three year sponsorship agreement with Aviva (formerly Norwich Union) and this support ended at the end of 2009. IMS proceeded with the event in 2010 without any sponsor support but running the event again in 2011 on this same basis is not feasible without compromising the inherent nature of our event.

It is hoped that sponsorship will be secured which will enable the event to be resurrected in the Spring of 2012 - various opportunities are available - please get in touch if you know of any prospective interested parties.

What's the Format of the Event?

The MSA Classic has recently taken place on a Sunday and offers a number of starting points around the country. All routes feature dramatic and picturesque countryside and offer some of the best driving roads in Britain.

The run is intended as a fun event and is wholly non-competitive. There are no timings or penalties for not following the supplied route and participants are free to travel at their own pace. Each route will contain a number of check points which will be open for a specified period. Check points have been chosen to be of specific interest to the motoring and motor sport enthusiast, in addition to venues of more general interest.

All routes finish at the same venue, typically a motor racing circuit, where participants will have the chance to drive parade laps, the perfect end to the day.

Who's Organising the Event?

The company behind the Formula 1 British Grand Prix and Wales Rally GB - the UK round of the FIA World Rally Championship, is organising The MSA Classic. International Motor Sports Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association Ltd, the governing body of UK motor sport.

History of the Event

The first MSA Classic took place in 1986, and ran 15 times until 2001. In 1996 the number of entries peaked at 1770, and the event was the largest moving classic car event in the world.

In 2007 the original and highly successful event format was revived, with all routes oversubscribed within 3 weeks. The event continues to go from strength to strength, hailed as an overwhelming success by both participants and the media.

Who can Participate?

The event is traditionally open to cars 20 or more years old - ie in 2010, it was open to cars built before 31st December 1989. Entries are accepted, and starts allocated, on a first come first served basis.

What's Included?

Traditionally, the entry fee includes the following:

  • Full route instructions in a 'tulip' style route bookVehicle Identification Plate
  • Passes for the number of people in your vehicle
  • Free entry to check point venues
  • Driving time at the motor sport venues visited
  • Driving time at the finish venue
  • Two tea/coffee vouchers for the finish
  • Two souvenir finishers' awards per car
